Timber Frame Erector
Location: Preston, Lancashire
Job Type: Contract / Project-Based
Phase 1: 5 days
Phase 2: Approx. 10 weeks
Coppersmith Recruitment and Services are working on behalf of our client to recruit an experienced Timber Frame Erector for a project based in Preston. This role offers an initial short phase with the opportunity to move straight into a longer second phase for the right candidates.
About the Role
You will be responsible for the erection of timber frame structures on a residential build. This is a hands-on, site-based role requiring previous timber frame erection experience and the ability to work efficiently to agreed build schedules.
The client operates on a fixed-price model, which is standard practice within timber frame and structural installation work in the UK. As such, installers will be expected to work to agreed rates rather than open-ended day rates.
Key Responsibilities
Erect timber frame structures in line with drawings and specifications
Work safely and efficiently on site, adhering to all H&S requirements
Coordinate with other trades and site management
Complete installs within agreed timeframes and build programs
Maintain quality standards throughout installation
Contract Structure & Pay (Important Information)
This role is price-based rather than open day-rate, which is typical for timber frame installation.
Examples of how pricing may be structured:
Square meter rate (e.g. £18 per m² where the client charges £25 per m²), or
Fixed price per plot/build
For example:
A 160m² property is typically expected to take around 5 days to erect
The installer price would be agreed in advance (e.g. £3,000 per plot)
This equates to roughly £500 per day per installer when completed on schedule
This structure protects both parties:
Installers know exactly what they will earn per plot
The client avoids overrun risk associated with open-ended day rates
Most experienced timber frame erectors are familiar with and expect this pricing model.
